[BNB 078] Ed Meme - Oh Yes I Will

Glenn Fallows (aka Ed Meme) has been the main songwriter, bandleader, manager, guitarist and Hammond organist for funk, soul and breaks collective The Impellers for the last 5 years, releasing albums on Freestyle Records, Mocambo Records and Legere Recordings.

In 2012, an over-productive mind and too much time on his hands left him with far too many songs to release with the band so to remedy this, a solo project was born? Ed Meme.

The Ed Meme project is written, arranged and produced by Glenn with him also playing the majority of the instruments.

Drums and conga duties are performed by Mark Claydon (Sir Joe Quartermain, Jezebel Sextet, The Getup, Gizelle Smith band) and tracks feature guest vocals from guests including Myles Sanko (Bijoumiyo, Speedometer, solo), Lady Clair (The Impellers) and Michelle David (Lefties Soul Connection).

The new 45 features two dancefloor friendly tracks, performed by a stripped-down band to allow the intricate melodies and rhythms room to breathe. "Oh Yes I Will", co-written and sung by Myles Sanko, is a two-beat beast beginning with a swingy, Motown-influenced groove up against scratchy guitars and sweet vocal harmonies which builds into a heavy, driving, deep funk workout on the outro.

The flipside is an afro and latin-influenced instrumental track bringing sunshine melodies, sparse-but-booming basslines and a latin-jazz fusion outro featuring trademark layered alto sax craziness from Chris Evans-Roberts (The Impellers).

With his band The Impellers, Glenn has shared stages with some of the finest funk, soul, hip-hop, jazz and scratch DJ talent from around the world. An ever-expanding CV includes shows with Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, Marva Whitney, Fred Wesley & The New JBs, Breakestra, Snowboy, James Taylor Quartet, Osaka Monorail, The Bamboos, Lack of Afro, Kid Koala, Hexstatic, Mr Thing (The Scratch Perverts), DJ Bizznizz (UK DMC Championships winner), DJ Vadim, Speedometer, Polar Bear, Part Time Heroes and The Nextmen.

He has also played live sessions on the BBC in the UK and was recruited by renowned DJ and promoter Adrian Gibson to play a live mix of tracks from the seminal "Ultimate Breaks & Beats" records - 55 classic breaks in a killer hour-and-a-half live set!! Plus, the band featured live onstage with Brooklyn hip hop legends The B Boys in "King of the Beats - The Movie (Vol II)" (follow this link and fast forward to the last 20 minutes).
